Paulding County Man Sentenced to 475 Years for Dog Fighting and Animal Cruelty

Some might wonder why it is that I state multiple times on my SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES and on this WEBSITE that I DO NOT BREED OR SELL ANY ANIMALS FOR ILLEGAL PURPOSES and that all information posted here is for HISTORIC, EDUCATIONAL, and ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY. Well, the main reason is that is the honest truth. I do not breed, sell, or promote animals for illegal use or purpose including and not limited to dog fighting, gambling, or any other criminal purposes. I love the A.P.B.T. breed and although I feel that GAMENESS is absolutely an important quality that should be preserved in these dogs, I also feel that animal cruelty and poor husbandry, torturing and suffrage of these dogs is inhumane and should be punished by applicable laws that protects the animals and the community at large from the underhanded and disgusting activities that go along with dogs fighting in most areas where these crimes are committed.

Gone are the days of husbandry and prestige that accompanied the guts and glory of the old time dog man.. These dogs are no longer matched in legit and admirable sporting environments. I believe that if there were some sort of regulating body or commission that dogs can be matched and shown humanely. However, that isn’t what we have in the modern age. Dog fighting has become a savage bloodsport oftentimes officiated by the worst of humanity. The dogs have become about as disposable as a grocery bag.. and these animals have to fight to live, where a loss or any sort of “bad move” is a death sentence. Some dogs are electrocuted or starved as punishment for a loss or “bad moves”.. as feeding a “cur” is too expensive for a dog fighter to even consider.

The tough part about keeping and breeding American Pit Bull Terriers is their natural ability. They can absolutely hideously damage another animal or person with ease and as such they can be a major liability for anyone, even an experienced handler. Some of these dogs come from lineages that are known for atrocious actions and even the most dedicated dog man would advise against keeping them or selling them to the public. This is why some dog fighters will simply destroy an animal that doesn’t live up to their standard as a fighter.

I don’t keep or breed my dogs for fighting however, I can say that accidents do happen. When they do it can be devastating. Accidents are almost always extremely stressful and also often times expensive. When a pitbull gets a hold of near to any other breed of dog that animal stands little chance and will be injured. Even the small A.P.B.T.s are can devastate another animal easily. It is my experience that some A.P.B.T.s have abnormally long canines and they are able to pierce and lacerate flesh like knives. Even if the dog doesn’t take hold and refuse to release, the damage from puncture wounds can be fatal. Those dogs that do bite and refuse to release while pulling and shaking only releasing for a deeper bite are absolutely damaging to any flesh they might take hold of. I’m a realist and an honest man as best as I can be.. so, I won’t pretend that the pitbull bite is less dangerous than other breeds. It is unique. Large breeds like the Presa Canario, American Bulldog, Fila Brasileiro, Rottweiler, Doberman, etc are equally dangerous, and I won’t minimize that fact, however the A.P.B.T. is also bred to endure punishment. These dogs can take down wild animals like feral hogs and jaguars and as such are able to cause heinous damage to a human being should they decide to attack. The point of this writing is not to villainize the breed but to honestly and accurately describe the great responsibility of the owner of these dogs and to not at all pretend that they aren’t very dog aggressive animals. Where you have one that is human aggressive you are dealing with a dangerous weapon that should be euthanized. Why? There should be no purpose for such an animal. In the modern age we have cameras, courts, and other security measures that are less likely to cause extensive damage a human being.

All of the information I’ve stated above are in part why I am not sorry when I hear that a dog fighter has been punished or made an example of by the law and courts in the communities in which they operate. 475 years is much too harsh of a punishment for dog fighting, however, keeping 107 dogs is not only stupid and inhumane, but should be punished if found to be used in a dog fighting operation. 10 years is probably more appropriate, however, dog fighting and cockfighting are becoming prevalent in some areas and only ruin and shame will come from those activities in any area where those activities are illegal. GAME BRED DOGS can be a liability if their owner isn’t prepared for and aware of the risks involved. Even a small kennel can have problems if the dogs are trained to fight.. and many game dogs are bred to be naturally talented. Even the friendliest game bred A.P.B.T. with humans can be an absolute terror when it comes to small animals. They are bred to hunt. Be very careful with these dogs, as they are already under attack by B.S.L. and law enforcement agencies that see them as dangerous threats because of their ability and capability both. Most experienced dogmen and women would advise the average person not to buy A.P.B.T.s from game lines at all. They are for experienced keepers and breeders only.

My dogs are bred for sanctioned show, hunting, and sporting events sponsored by the A.D.B.A. That however doesn’t mean that they cannot and won’t be dog aggressive. Most American Pit Bull Terriers are at very least dog aggressive. Some make great pets and members of a family, community and society.. and some do not. If you don’t plan to use your dogs illegally as fighting animals, don’t assume that your dogs won’t have accidents. They happen, and even in an accident there can be a responsible party. PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE AND PAY ATTENTION AT ALL TIMES to their behavior and temperament. Some dogs have mental and trauma issue the same as a human being. Be very careful about how you keep and handle your animals because you could end up very sorry and in a bad situation if you don’t.
