In order to return the love and respect to the breed I love and feed I’ve made the decision to focus on a program that heals and saves lives as opposed to destroying. These days most people keep dogs as companions, guardians, and deterrents of crime. Dogs offer a sense of of love, safety, and security to people that may not have those things in their lives at some point, be that from rough upbringing, neglect, abuse and mistreatment, abandonment, or other experiences leading to PTSD, ANXIEY, DEPRESSION, or inherited issues like ADHD, AUTISM, ATTACHMENT and other SOCIAL DISORDERS or PHYSICAL HANDICAPS. Dogs can sense problems in the environment and with their owners and can SAVE LIVES by intervening in situations that might otherwise become catastrophic without a loyal companion to ensure their wellbeing.

I’ve held and kept many dogs in my life. In that time I’ve only had two experiences of the dogs fighting or biting and that was with one another, when they were unsupervised, and usually over food during feeding time. My dogs are usually all very smart, loving, curious, and attentive to my desires. As such they have brought me a sense of well being and peace no other animal and most human beings have not been able to provide in my own personal experience. For those reasons I love these animals and I do what I can to save them from mistreatment, neglect, stereotypes and undeserved scrutiny. My dogs are fed, kept in a climate controlled environment, always monitored by either direct supervision or camera and intercom, and taught not to exhibit behavior that is undesirable or dangerous to myself, others, or the environment. My animals aren’t vicious. They are lovers that can fight if they need to.

I’ve realized that using certain advertising tactics and campaigns I’m falsely representing myself and my intentions for the dogs I keep and feed. Some of them come from lineages known for their “fighting spirit”, tenacity, prowess, and courage. However, it isn’t at all my goal or intention to produce an animal that is mentally, physically, or otherwise genetically unsound, inherently dangerous, menacing, or unstable. Those kinds of animals have normally suffered tremendous abuse and conditions that make them into volatile creatures. That isn’t good for them, their owners, or the breed itself. This is why I’m redesigning my website and representing the animals I love in a way that is more positive, productive, and more accurate. I’m choosing to focus on the positive and healing aspects of these beautiful animals and not the reputations placed upon them by the bad owners and terrible conditions they’ve been forced to endure in many instances that have caused them to be seen as trouble in communities that don’t fully understand their natural instincts and overwhelming desire to please.

As such we are no longer endorsing or supporting certain imagery or presentations on our website and we are changing our kennel name. A name is a reflection of an essence, an idea, and a purpose when given as a title or moniker. In many instances it identifies an intention or a goal and is a first impression as to who and what you’re dealing with in a being or entity. Although names can be deceptive, they are usually reflective of the nature of a thing and should be accurate and applicable to the person, place, or thing they identify. For these reasons our new identity for our program is.. SATORI KENSHO COMPANIONS!

Satori means the experience of awakening (“enlightenment”) or apprehension of the true nature of reality. It is often considered an experience which cannot be expressed in words. While the term satori is derived from the Japanese verb “to know” (satoru), it is distinct from the philosophical concept of knowledge as it represents a transcendence of the distinction between one that knows and knowledge.

Kensho is insight, an understanding of our essential nature as Buddha-nature, or the nature of mind, the perceiving subject itself, which was equated with Buddha-nature by the East Mountain school.

Contemporary understanding also describes kensho as an experience, as in “enlightenment experience”; the term “enlightenment experience” is itself a tautology: “Kensho (enlightenment) is an enlightenment (kensho)-experience”. The notion of “experience” fits in a popular set of dichotomies: pure (unmediated) versus mediated, noncognitive versus cognitive, experiential versus intellectual, intuitive versus intellectual, nonrational versus rational, nondiscursive versus discursive, nonpropositional versus propositional.

The notion of pure experience (junsui kuiken) to interpret and understand kensho was introduced by Nishida Kitaro in his An Inquiry into the Good (1911), under influence of “his somewhat idiosyncratic reading of western philosophy”, especially William James, who wrote The Varieties of Religious Experience. Wayne Proudfoot traces the roots of the notion of “religious experience” to the German theologian Friedrich Schleiermacher (1768–1834), who argued that religion is based on a feeling of the infinite. The notion of “religious experience” was used by Schleiermacher to defend religion against the growing scientific and secular critique. It was adopted by many scholars of religion, of which William James was the most influential. D.T. Suzuki, who introduced Nishida Kitaro to western philosophy, took over this notion of pure experience, describing it as the essence of all religions, but best represented in what he considered the “superior Japanese culture and religion”.

At SATORI KENSHO COMPANIONS we believe in training our dogs to give them direction and purpose in their lives. I personally don’t want an animal that was raised to be dangerous or threatening for no reason at all. I prefer dogs that think and respond appropriately to simuli correctly. This means my dogs have to be intelligent, alert, and discerning in a way that must often times be taught to the animal and reinforced when displayed appropriately. We don’t praise our dogs for doing the wrong thing. We don’t rough them up, throw them around, tease them, or encourage them to be aggressive towards humans. Contrariwise we love them! With love and trust these dogs will naturally defend you, their home, your belongings, and also know not to simply respond to just anyone in a threatening manner unless of course a threat presents itself. We keep our animals in outside kennels when unsupervised for their own safety just as much as the safety of anyone else. We don’t want them getting bored and trying to roam the neighborhood. We give them one on one attention, as well as attention as a group. We praise and reward good behavior reinforcing desired behaviors and do what we can to deter negative behaviors so the dogs know what is absolutely unacceptable. One thing about these dogs is that when they love and trust you they never want to disappoint you. Once bonded to you, your family, your child, and their conditions and circumstances there’s nothing they would not do for you. NOTHING AT ALL.
